Public Universities

Some of the Public Universities in Malaysia for international students who wish to study in Malaysia.

These Malaysian universities are public universities funded by the Malaysian Government and most of them offered programmes from multiple disciplines.

Until recently, the Ministry of Education, Malaysia was responsible for seven institutions bearing the title University College.  These have since been upgraded to full universities and there are currently no public university colleges.

In line with this, universities in Malaysia are categorized into three groups:  Research Universities, Focused Universities (technical, education, management and defense) and Comprehensive Universities. To date, there are 20 universities comprising 5 research universities, 4 comprehensive universities, and 11 focused universities.
Research Universities focus on research, Focused Universities concentrate on specific fields related to its establishment, while Comprehensive Universities offer a variety of courses and fields of study. Ministry of Education, Malaysia – Public Universities 

It is with these intentions that these public Universities attract as much interest from international students faculty as the private Universities in Malaysia in their search for Study in Malaysia.

This is because the Malaysian Universities be it private or public provides ample opportunities for all international students to excel in their form of studies.  Further more the tuition fees in the public Universities are usually lesser than its counterpart the private Universities.

Therefore international students who wish to study PHd in Malaysia public universities are encouraged to contact these universities directly for further information on the programmes offered.
